Shreyas Iyer Biography: Birth and Family Background

Shreyas Santosh Iyer was born on 6 December 1994 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He belongs to a Tamil Brahmin family, with roots in Thrissur, Kerala. His father, Santosh Iyer, is a businessman, and his mother, Rohini Iyer, is a homemaker. He has one elder sister, who is married and settled in the US. Shreyas grew up in a cricket-loving family, and his father was his first coach and mentor. He used to play cricket with his father and cousins in the backyard of his house and also joined a local club at the age of 12.

Shreyas completed his schooling at Don Bosco High School, Matunga, Mumbai, where he excelled in academics as well as sports. Shreyas Iyer started playing cricket at a young age and was coached by former India batsman Pravin Amre. He showed his talent and potential in school and club cricket and was selected for the Mumbai Under-16 team at the age of 15. He soon progressed to the Under-19 level and represented India at the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 264 runs in six matches at an average of 44.
