Shubman Gill was born on 8 September 1999 in Fazilka, Punjab, to a Jat Sikh family. His father, Lakhwinder Singh Gill, was an agriculturist who also wanted to become a cricketer but never got the opportunity. He saw the potential in his son and decided to nurture his talent from a young age.
He bought him a cricket kit when he was three years old and started coaching him at their farm. Shubman would practice for hours with his father and sometimes with a bowling machine.
