Birth and Age
Yashasvi Jaiswal was born on 28 December 2001 in Suriyawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. He is currently 21 years old as of October 2023.
Family
Yashasvi Jaiswal belongs to a humble family background. His father Bhupendra Jaiswal is the owner of a small hardware store and his mother Kanchan Jaiswal is a housewife. He has five siblings: three brothers (Santosh, Tejashwi, and Priyanshu) and two sisters (Pooja and Arti). His father was not able to provide for his family of eight and their house did not have any space for another adult.
Education
Yashasvi Jaiswal did not receive any formal education as he moved to Mumbai at the age of 11 to pursue his cricket career. He did not attend any school or college and learned to read and write from his coach Jwala Singh. He also took online courses to complete his 10th standard examination in 2019.
Cricket Career
Yashasvi Jaiswal started playing cricket at the age of eight in his hometown Suriyawan. He used to play with a tennis ball on the streets with his friends. He developed a passion for cricket and decided to move to Mumbai at the age of 11 to join a cricket academy at Azad Maidan. His father did not stop him from leaving as he wanted him to follow his passion.
Early Struggles
Yashasvi Jaiswal faced many difficulties and challenges when he moved to Mumbai. He only had an uncle staying in Mumbai whom he hardly knew. He joined a cricket academy at Azad Maidan where he met his coach and mentor Jwala Singh. Singh was impressed by Yashasvi’s talent and dedication and offered him a place to stay at his academy in Santacruz. However before that Yashasvi had to endure many hardships in Mumbai.
He was initially given accommodation in a dairy shop in return for work but was evicted by the shopkeeper as he was unable to work frequently. As a result, he lived in a tent with the groundsmen at the Maidan where he sold panipuri to make ends meet. Jaiswal also faced discrimination and bullying from other players who mocked him for his poor background and lack of education. He did not have proper clothes or shoes or equipment to play cricket. He often went hungry or slept on an empty stomach. Jaiswal also suffered from typhoid and malaria due to the unhygienic conditions he lived in.
Despite all these obstacles Yashasvi never gave up on his dream and worked hard to improve his skills and performance. He used to practice for hours every day under the guidance of his coach Singh who supported him financially and emotionally.

Domestic Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal first came to prominence in 2015 when he scored 319 not out and took 13/99 in a Giles Shield match, an all-round record in school cricket in India. He was selected for the Mumbai under-16 squad and later the India national under-19 cricket team. He was the highest run-scorer (318 runs) and player of the tournament at the 2018 Under-19 Asia Cup which India won. In 2019 he scored 173 from 220 balls in a Youth Test match against South Africa under-19s. Later that year he scored 294 runs in seven matches, including four half-centuries, in the under-19 tri-series in England.
Jaiswal also made history by becoming the youngest batsman ever to score a double century in List A cricket in 2019. He achieved this feat while playing for Mumbai against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Alur Cricket Stadium III Ground on 16 October 2019. Jaiswal scored 203 runs off 154 balls with 17 fours and 12 sixes at the age of 17 years and 292 days. He broke the record previously held by Alan Barrow of South Africa who scored a double century at the age of 20 years and 275 days in 1975.
Jaiswal continued his stellar form in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in South Africa where he emerged as the leading run-scorer for India under-19s with 400 runs from six matches at an average of 133.33 with one century and four fifties. Jaiswal also won four Player of the Match awards and one Player of the Series award for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament. IPL
His impressive display in domestic and youth cricket earned him a lucrative IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals who bought him for 2.4 crore in the 2020 IPL auction. Jaiswal made his IPL debut on 22 September 2020 against Chennai Super Kings at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. He scored 6 runs off 6 balls before being dismissed by Lungi Ngidi. He played in three matches in the 2020 season and scored 40 runs at an average of 13.33 with a strike rate of 133.33.
Jaiswal had a much better season in 2023 where he scored 312 runs from 14 matches at an average of 26.00 with a strike rate of 145.83 with one century and one fifty. He also made the fastest half-century in IPL history while playing against Kolkata Knight Riders on 11 May 2023. International Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut in the first Test against the West Indies at Windsor Park on 12 July 2023. He became the 17th Indian batter to score a century on Test debut, joining the likes of Lala Amarnath, Gundappa Vishwanath, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and other legendary players. He became the first Indian opener to score a century on Test debut in an overseas venue and the third overall – the other two openers being Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
Remaining just 29 runs short of a double century at 171, Jaiswal became the highest-scoring Indian batter on Test debut away from home; Jaiswal surpassed Sourav Ganguly’s record of 131 runs against England at Lord’s. He broke the record of most balls faced (387) by an Indian on Test debut; he surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of 322 deliveries.
Jaiswal also made his T20I debut against the West Indies at Providence Stadium on 8 August 2023. He scored a brilliant unbeaten century off just 51 balls with nine fours and seven sixes to help India chase down a target of 191 with seven wickets and four overs to spare. He became the second Indian after Rohit Sharma to score a century on T20I debut and the fifth overall in the world.
