During the ICC World Cup 2023, Angelo Mathews became the first cricketer to be timed out in International Cricket History.
This incident took place in the 39th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 between Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Bangladesh won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first.
The Sri Lankan team, who came to bat, did not have a good start as their first wicket was taken by Shorifu Islam in the form of Kushal Perera in the very first over.
Sri Lanka’s fourth wicket fell in the form of Samaravikrama in 24.2 overs, who was out on a personal score of 41 runs. Sri Lanka had a score of 4 wickets at 135 in 24.2 overs.
After the dismissal of Srilankan Batsman Sadeera Samaravikrama in the 25 over of the inning, Angelo Mathews was the next man in but he seemed to have issues with the strap of the helmet and was late on taking the strike.

A big victory for India in ICC World Cup 2023
The former Srilankan Captain Angelo Mathews took over two minutes to assume the betting position due to the helmet issues. During this delay, Bangladesh Captain Shakib Al Hasan made an appeal, which was upheld by the on-field umpire. But Srilankan all-rounder former Captain Angelo Mathews was not happy with this decision.
As per MCC law 40.1 (Time Out)- A batter has to be ready to receive the next ball within 3 minutes of the dismissal or retirement of a player. But, according to ICC World Cup 2023 playing conditions, the time limit for the better is just two minutes.
The batsman argued with the umpires for a period before eventually leaving the pitch in frustration, shaking his head in dismay. He then threw the helmet immediately after crossing the boundary. And then Angelo Mathews became the first cricketer to be timed out in International Cricket.
